CDT Level 2.5 6L80 bench job rebuild includes expert labor and all high-performance parts and components itemized below. This service is ideal for GM vehicle owners looking to enhance operation, improve reliability, and tackle the demands of extreme conditions such as towing, racing, or daily driving with added power.
This package features full rebuilding of internal systems, including upgraded friction surfaces, reinforced pistons, and a precision-balanced torque converter. We also offer multiple stall speed options to match your vehicle’s setup, helping optimize how power from your engine is transferred through the drivetrain. If you’re running a modified or high-load build, these adjustments are crucial to ensure proper system function and long-term performance.
As part of the process, we fully inspect your 6L80 torque converter for signs of wear or metal shavings, a common issue that can indicate internal failure. If necessary, we replace or upgrade the converter to meet the needs of your driving style and application. We’ll also verify all internal gears, clutches, and fluid passages to ensure clean, efficient operation post-rebuild.
You will need to ship your transmission to our shop for the rebuild. If you’re unable to send in your unit and prefer that we provide a transmission core, please contact us to discuss availability and lead time.
We use only premium transmission fluid and OE-grade or better parts during assembly. Once the rebuild is complete, we test drive and dyno-test each transmission when possible to ensure it performs fine under all expected conditions. Whether you’re looking to reduce stall delay, enhance durability, or improve point-to-point drivability, our Level 2.5 build reflects our commitment to quality and long-lasting repairs that outperform stock.
CDT456L2.5/80offers 17% more clutch apply area than stock.
One piece 300M steel forging is heat-treated and shot-peened for maximum durability. This shaft doubles oil flow to the clutch pack for improved resistance to heat and longer clutch life. It is designed for use with the OE dampener to minimize risk of chirp/squawk. The hub is designed for OE steels and clutches.
CDT35RL2.5/80 offers 25% more clutch apply area than stock. High Energy material maintains consistent frictional behavior and tolerates extreme thermal stress applications. Kolene steels provide a surface treatment that enhances wear & fatigue resistance.
Hi-Per Blue® Pistons are manufactured with upgraded High-Performance Blue AEM material for superior thermal and chemical resistance with better fit and performance.

*$5,035 does not include any Hard Part damage, Torque Converter or TCM/ECM tuning. After an internal inspection of your transmission, we will notify you of any hard part damage that will carry an additional cost. Also, if your vehicle is pre-2010 we may need to install a new upgraded pump stator (cover) and 1-2-3-4/3-5-R drum.
We recommend the Billet Reinforced Output Carrier for vehicles producing over 750 RWHP, Nitrous, or Heavy Vehicles (including trucks, SUV's and CTS-V's.) Note: We have seen the stock output carrier (planetary) break in vehicles with less than 750 RWHP. We do not warranty the stock output carrier (planetary) in any of our rebuilds. We highly recommend that you purchase the billet reinforced output carrier. We offer a 6L80 Level 4 Rebuild that includes this part.
Warranty varies according to application. Please refer to Warranty Info page on our website.
Shipping If you need assistance shipping your transmission, we can arrange Domestic Shipping (averages $250 - $500 each way) for your transmission. Please complete the Shipping Questionnaire on our website (listed under the Contact Us tab) if you would like us to arrange shipping.
Transmission Tuning We do not supply a TCM or ECM tune. Please understand that proper tuning of the TCM and ECM are mandatory. All 6L80’s are torque base shifted units. The torque signal is calculated thru the ECM. Therefore, transmission performance & longevity are directly dependent on the delivered torque signal that’s calculated in the ECM. If this is not done properly, you will experience premature transmission failure. We also do not recommend maxing out pressures or deleting torque management completely because it will cause seal failure and/or hard part breakage. Please contact us for tuner recommendations. A review of final tune and final log files is included. Once your final tune and log reviews meet our requirements we will document this in our records for warranty purposes. Please only drive the vehicle for tuning purposes until this process is completed.
Flushing Cooler & Lines We cannot stress enough the importance of flushing the transmission cooler(s) and lines, even if they are new. We recommend using a Hot Flush Machine or something comparable.
Auxiliary Cooler You need to install a stacked plate auxiliary transmission cooler (not a tube & fin style cooler) rated for 25,000 GVW. The ideal operating temperature for this transmission is 180°or less. These transmissions have a tendency to run very hot – the cooler will lower operating temperature and recovery time which in turn will extend the life of your transmission.
Thank you for the opportunity to assist you.

The Crew at CDT
Yes, the CDT Level 2.5 rebuild includes inspection and replacement or upgrade of the 6L80 torque converter. We offer a range of stall speed options based on your vehicle’s setup, ensuring proper power transfer, reduced slippage, and improved responsiveness under load.
We disassemble and inspect the torque converter for signs of wear, including contamination from metal shavings, compromised friction surfaces, or fluid breakdown. If any issues are encountered, we recommend replacing the converter to maintain safe and optimal operation.
Absolutely. This rebuild is designed to improve durability and power handling in extreme conditions, including frequent towing, high-heat driving, and high-load acceleration. Upgraded components, enhanced piston assemblies, and fresh transmission fluid all contribute to better overall system performance.
Yes, our rebuild is fully compatible with GM platforms and can be tuned to work seamlessly with custom engine configurations. Our team works with you to select the best stall and gearing strategy for your vehicle’s setup, ensuring balanced power and drivability.
Yes, whenever possible, we perform a test drive to verify smooth system operation, proper fluid pressure, and converter lock-up function. This crucial step helps catch any fine adjustments needed before the unit is returned to the customer.
